有一读者问：有这样一句话：
(1)When modernization is achieved, China as we know it will have disappeared.
有人说，“按语法，这句要译为‘现代化实现时，据我们所知，中国将消失了。’”请问将 China as we know it...译为“据我们所知，中国……”是正确译法吗？
将as we know it 译作“据我们所知”，想是将 as we know it 误看成 as we know 所致。as we know it 与 as we know 不论在意义上或是在语法上皆不相同。as we know 比较常见，其意为“我们都知道”，实例如：
(2)Taiwan, as we know ， is an inseparable part of China.
(3)As we know , smoking is harmful to the health.
从语法上讲，as we know 是一非限制性定语从句，as 一般皆被看作是一关系代词。
as we know it 则是一比较状语从句，as是一连词，其义为“正如”，强调同一性。China as we know it 应译作“我们所知之中国”。这种结构也不罕见，再如：
(4)There's no life on Mars as we know it .
(5)She relates everything as she saw it and felt it .
(6)He did not care for classical form, as the school of Pope understood it .
(7)It is essential to recognize that the statute takes on real meaning only as the courts interpret it .
(8)How do you like the name as I changed it ?
(9)We do not want our children to suffer war any more as we have suffered it .
