在这一句中，the day和that引导的从句作何句子成分？
the day that引导的是一时间状语从句。the day that可以看作是一个短语从属连词。如一定要具体分析的话，the day是on the day的省略形式，如此，that （相当于when）引导的从句就是the day的定语了。
the day不但其前省去了介词on（一般皆不用），其后的that也可省去，如：

同属于这种结构的还有the moment (that), the minute (that), the instant (that), the time (that)等，实例如：
(3)The moment I saw this, it appealed to me.
(4)Ask for help the minute you're stuck.

但请注意，上述句中的the moment, the minute, the instant, the time等之前省去的介词是at，当然at一般也是不用的。又，在上述短语连词中，一般皆用that而不用when。
