不是间接疑问句

有一读者问：《大学英语精读》第六册有这样一句话：

All change is resisted, so the question is how can the changes be made big enough so that they have a chance of succeeding?

按通常惯例，间接疑问句中的助动词应置于主语之后，但这里的can为什么却位于主语the changes 之前呢？

这里的how can the changes...of succeeding? 不是间接疑问句，而是一个直接疑问句，所以其末有一问号。如果你愿意，可在is之后加一冒号“：”就可以看得更清楚了。
