有一读者问： 我懂得下面对话中的Not much:
(1)— Have you done any reading those days?
— Not much, if anything.
但下面对话中的Not much做何解释呢:
(2)— He doesn't want to cheat you.
— Not much!
例（1）中的Not much具有其通常的意义，即“不多”。但例（2）中的Not much（请注意其后有感叹号）就不具有其通常的意义了。它是一种反语，意谓“他肯定是想骗我”。这是形为否定、意为肯定的又一例。
