有一读者问： 为什么下面一句中的谓语动词用复数形式，是否用错了：
(1)None of us understand the play.
对初学者来说，应该知道none常后接“of+名（代）词”。“none+of+名（代）词”用作主语时，其后的谓语动词多用复数形式；用单数形式也可以，但较为少见。因此，上述例（1）中的复形动词understand并没有错。
必须指出，“none+of”之后的名（代）词必须是可数的人或物，并且为数须是三或三以上。如果是指两个人或物，则不可用none，而须用neither。试比较：
(2)I have three cats. None of them is white. （须用none）
(3)I have two cats. Neither of them is white. （须用neither）
此外还应知道，汉语中的“我们都没有看见你的猫”不可译作We all did not see your cat.，而应译作：
(4)None of us saw your cat.
自然，如果“我们”指两个人时则须说：
(5)Neither of us saw your cat.
