(1)The admonition attributed to showman P.T. Barnum that one never went broke overestimating the bad taste of the American public is canonized in Vegas' cartoonish sphinxes and pyramids.

(2)The new vision was of prosperous, secure Middle East taking as its guide the growth and dynamism of the newly emergent economies of Asia.

attributed to showman P.T.

that one never went broke overestimating the bad taste of the American public是一同位语从句,与the admonition同位。 overestimating the bad taste of the American public是一现在分词短语,用作时间状语。 in Vegas' cartoonish sphinxes and pyramids是一介词短语,用作地点或方面状语。 首先提出的”;never went broke overestimating...

顺便说一下,Vegas即是Las Vegas(拉斯韦加斯),美国Nevada(内华达)州一赌城。 这个句子的基本结构显然是:主语(名词短语the new vision)+系动词was+表语(介词短语of prosperous, secure Middle East...the newly emergent economies of Asia)。

of是介词。

prosperous, secure Middle East taking是一动名词短语,用作of的宾语(Middle East = Middle East's)。

as its guide是一介词短语,用作其后的the growth and...of Asia的补足语。the growth and dynamism of the newly emergent economies of Asia是一较长的名词短语,用作动名词taking的宾语。
