The principle of the laser is that the atoms of a crystal like the ruby crystal can be excited by a strong light and can then store this light, amplify it and emit an immensely powerful beam.
这里that后的各从句是不是并列的？ 如是，第二个从句的主语是什么？ can前是不是省略了laser?
这个句子里只有一个从句，即that从句，作表语用。在that从句中，主语是atoms，它有两个谓语部分，一是can be excited by a strong light，另一 个是can then store this light, amplify it and emit an immensely powerful beam， 二者用连词and连接了起来。换句话说，两个can引导的谓语在此共用一个主语atoms。如果按照某些语法家的意见把the atoms...can...and can...看作并列结构，也未尝不可，但这只意味着第二个can之前省去了the atoms。
