① that之后为何用逗号？ ② that从句是否修饰the deep? ③ have captured one's imagination何意？
① that之后之所以用逗号是因为要表示停顿，以与其后的介词短语在语气上有一间隔。应该指出，介词短语through the ages（多少世代以来）之后也应有一逗号，但被作者省去了。② that从句作为定语显然是用以修饰其前的these warm-blooded giants，而不是修饰the deep（大海）。③ capture one's imagination （或fancy）是一种固定说法，意为“讨得……的欢喜”或“引……的瞩目”，再如：
