英国人所说的the Channel指英法两国中间的the English Channel。

changeable比changeful普通得多。

change是“换去”，不是“换来”，如帽子旧了，换一顶新的，该说change the old cap (for a new one)，不该说change a new cap。

chance后面接of或for和动名词或接不定式都可以，如a （或the）chance of（或for）doing it和a（或the）chance to do it。

chamber现在不普通，通常该用room。

chalk是物质名词，所以不可说a chalk和some chalks，该说a piece of chalk和some pieces of chalk。

chairman的女性形式是chairwoman，但有时chairman也指女主席。

take a chair是“坐在椅上”，take the chair是“（在会上）当主席”。

We shall certify him of the fact（我们将向他保证这事实）等句子里的certify的用法现在很不普通，最好不用。

certificate用作“学校当局所出的证明书（使学生可以免考入大学的）”解是美国英语。

a certain man, certain persons, a certain Mr Carr等表达方式里的certain作“某”解，是形容词。

master of ceremonies（司仪者）比master of the ceremonies普通。
