pursuant to the contract，they paid on 14 April等句子里的pursuant用作副词，习惯上不可把它改作pursuantly。

pursuant在英国公文里现在不及从前普通。in pursuance of也是这样。

for charitable purposes，for military purposes，for practical purposes，for instruction purposes等表达方式里用复数形式purposes。

注意下面各句里用purports和purporting，不用is purported和purported：

purchase是庄重的词，大概说购买产业或大批器材或名贵古董的时候用，普通说买菜、买肉等是不用的。

pupil通常指小学生或中学生，在美国几乎总是指小学生，但在跟教师并称的时候也可以指大学生。

Punch是英国的一本幽默杂志，前面没有the。

publish往往把著作者或编辑者作主语。如假定Hardy写了一本书，被出版家Wilson出版了，说Hardy has published his book和Wilson has published Hardy's book都可以。

cease publication指“杂志、报纸等停刊”，suspend publication指“暂时停刊”。

the public（大众）被当作单数或复数都可以。
