née（或nee）原来是法语，作born解，在英语里借用在已嫁女子的娘家姓的前面

the necessity后面接of或for和动名词比接不定式普通，如the necessity of（或for）doing this比the necessity to do this普通。

necessary后面接for或to没有区别，如下面各句都可以说：

An Englishman does not necessarily speak perfect English里的does不可改作need。

nearly不可修饰表示否定的词，如不可说He has nearly nothing to do here，该把nearly改作almost。

关于nearby，near-by和near by，下面几点该注意：

把near用作nearly解，如near thirty years ago和near dead with fright现在很不普通，该避免。

Navy Department和Department of the Navy都指美国的海军部，相当于英国的Admiralty。
