说“棒球运动”在base(-)ball前面不该有a或the，如play base(-)ball，不作play a base(-)ball或play the base(-)ball。

base通常指有形的基础，basis通常指无形的基础，如the base of the pillar和the basis of the philosophy。

即使指“一所兵营”通常也用barracks而不用barrack。有时用a barracks。

baron是英国五种爵位里最低的，通常译作“男爵”。

barn在英国指堆积谷类、柴草等的房子，但在美国也指马棚、牛棚等。

bargain是“便宜货”，good bargain也是“便宜货”，bad bargain是“买得太贵的东西”。

在名词前面用barefooted，如barefooted children。在谓语里，barefoot比barefooted普通

=barbarism或barbarity，如the barbarousness of their former mode of life和the barbarousness of the bandits' treatment of their prisoners。

主要相当于barbarous。例如：The bandits treated their prisoners with barbarity.

主要相当于barbarian。例如：They used to live in barbarism.

barbarian，barbaric和barbarous都是形容词，但在意思上有区别，barbarian是“属于野蛮民族的”，barbaric往往有“野蛮民族的色彩或风趣”的意思

河的两岸，向下游看在右面的叫right bank，左面的叫left bank，如长江从西向东流，南岸是right bank，北岸是left bank。
