(1) comprehensible意为“可以理解的”，能让人弄懂、明白的(其反义词是incomprehensible)；comprehensive意为“综合性的，包罗一切的”。

• He talks so fast that most of what he says is totally incomprehensible .
  他说话那么快，以致他的大部分话让人根本无法理解。
• I'd like a comprehensive street map of London, please.
  请给我一份详细的伦敦街道分布图。

 (2) understandable主要形容人的行为是“可以理解的”，含有宽容、体谅之意。

• It's an understandable mistake — I could have made it myself.
  这是一个可以理解的错误——我本人也可能会犯的。
• The lorry drivers are on strike again. Mind you, they get paid so badly, it's understandable .
  货车司机又罢工了。要知道,他们待遇这么差，罢工是可以理解的。

 (3) understanding可作动名词，意为“理解”，也可作形容词，意为“理解人的，善解人意的”。

• An understanding person is good at understanding people and their problems.
  一个善解人意的人是善于理解他人及他们的问题的。
• A: I'm looking for an understanding girlfriend.
  我在寻觅一位善解人意的女朋友。
  B: You need one.
  你是需要一个这样的(女朋友的)。
