(1) condemn to表示“判处(徒刑)；迫使处于(某种不好的处境或状态)”。

• The criminal was condemned to ten years in jail/ten year's imprisonment.
  该犯人被判处10年监禁。
• His bad leg condemns him to a wheelchair.
  他的坏腿迫使他以轮椅为伴。

 (2) destine to接不定式，意思是“命中注定”。

• He seemed to be destined to be an actor.
  他似乎命中注定该当演员。
• We were destined never to meet again.
  我们注定再也见不着了。

 (3) ①doom to意思是“命中注定遭遇(某种不好的事)；一定会(失败等)”，to可作介词，也可接不定式。

• Why are my hopes always doomed to disappointment？
  为什么我的希望总是注定变成失望？
• All people are doomed to die.
  人总是要死的。

②doom to也可表示“判处(徒刑)”。

• The court doomed the accused to a long term of imprisonment.
  法院判处被告长期监禁。

 (4) sentence to表示：①判处(徒刑)；②迫使(人或物)遭受(不好的境遇)，后接名词或动名词短语。

• The robber with violence was sentenced to death suspended for two years.
  该暴力抢劫犯被判处死刑，缓期两年执行。
• Many fine old houses in the city are being sentenced to destruction by the council's rebuilding plans.
  该市许多漂亮的古老房屋由于市政委员会的重建计划正被迫拆毁。
• There's no need to think that you're sentenced to a lifetime of unhappiness. You can choose what kind of life you want to have.
