区别辨析 cross out, cross off, score out, scratch out, scrub out, strike off, strike out 与 strike through

(1) cross out, cross off, score out意思是“画掉,勾掉,删去”,off可以是副词,也可是介词。

  • Cross out/off the last two names. They're not members any more.
    把最后两个名字划掉,他们已不再是成员了。
  • Score out that last name. I no longer intend to invite him.
    划去最后那个名字,我不再想邀请他了。

 (2) scratch out意为“把……划/刮掉;取消”。

  • Names had been cut on the wall, but had then been scratched out .
    墙上刻了一些名字,但后来又被刮掉了。
  • I looked at the list; somebody had scratched his name out .
    我看了看名单,有人把他的名字划掉了。

 (3) scrub out也可表示“把……划掉,取消”。

  • The football game had to be scrubbed out because of the snowstorm.
    这场足球赛由于暴风雪不得不取消。
  • Scrub out that last part of the message; the wording is not very polite.
    划掉电报的最后一部分:措辞上不是很礼貌。

 (4) strike off, strike out, strike through均可表示去掉、除掉(所写文字的某个部分),其中off, out, through均用作副词。

  • Strike off/out/through his name. I refuse to have him as my guest!
    去掉他的名字。我不能让他作我的客人!
  • Strike that last paragraph through ; it has little to do with the central idea.
    去掉那最后一段,它与中心思想关系不大。
