else主要用于以下结构：

 (1) ①用在anybody, everybody, somewhere及所有其他以any-, every-, some-, no-开头的词后，在正式文体中也可用在all之后(意为everything)。

• Would you like anything else to drink?
  你还想要喝点什么吗？
• It's too crowded here. Let's go somewhere else .
  这里太拥挤了。咱们去别处吧。
• Nobody else understands me as well as you do.
  谁也不会像你那样理解我。
• You can't get it anywhere else .
  你从其他任何地方都弄不到它。
• When all else fails, pray.
  当一切都不奏效时，就祈祷吧。

②else的所有格形式为else's。

• You'll have to borrow somebody else's car. Mine is to be used today.
  你得借别人的车了，我的车今天要用。

 (2) 用在who, what, where, how及why之后，但通常不用在when和which之后。

• Who else ordered steak?
  还有谁要了牛排？
• Where else did you go besides Madrid?
  除马德里外，你还去了哪里？

 (3) 与little和much, not much连用。

• Little else is known of Tom's life.
  对于汤姆的生活，其他的就知道得不多了。
• There isn't much else to do now except pray.
  现在除了祈祷以外，其他可做的不多了。

 (4) ①else与or连用，意为“否则，不然的话，要不(就是)”。

• Let's get moving, or else we'll miss the train.
  咱们出发吧，不然，我们就赶不上火车了。

②说威胁的话时，常在最后说“or else!”，特别是用在孩子们中间。

• You'd better stop hitting my little brother, or else!
  你最好不要再打我的弟弟，要不然走着瞧！

 (5) elsewhere是somewhere else的正式用词。

• If you are not satisfied with my hospitality, go elsewhere .
  如果你对我的殷勤好客不满意，就到别处去。
