(1) 这些短语都表示“把希望寄托在……上”，但介词后所接的对象不尽相同。fasten one's hope on, hang one's hopes of...on, have (high) hopes for后接sb./sth.；lay one's hopes on, pin one's hopes on一般接sth.或doing sth.；其余均可接sb./sth./doing sth.。

• Parents fasten their hope on/have (high) hopes for their children.
  父母都把希望寄托在他们的孩子身上。
• He has high hopes for the future.
  他对未来有很高的期望。
• Many parents set their hopes/heart on their children for the future.
  许多父母都把未来的希望寄托在他们的孩子身上。

 (2) set one's heart on/upon 还可表示“决心要(某人、某物或做某事)”，后接sth.或doing sth.，与set one's mind on可以换用。

• I hear you have set your heart on pursuing your studies abroad.

• I don't know if I have a right to go against her if her heart is set on Bob.
