(1) ①两词用作动词时,意为“适合”,但用在衣服方面时所指有所不同。如果说:Your clothes fit you well,是表示衣服大小合适,穿起来合身;如果说:Your clothes suit you well,是表示“衣服样式、颜色适合,穿着好看”。
- Red and black are colors that suit me very well.
红色和黑色是很适合我的颜色。 - That suit is best that best suits me.
适合我穿的衣服就是最好的衣服。 - Every shoe fits not every foot.
并非每只鞋都合脚。
②fit表示“(衣服)合身时”,也可用作不及物动词。

①fit可表示“(使)适合”,用作及物动词和不及物动词。
- His manners don't fit his important new position.
他的行为举止不适合他的重要的新职位。 - He did not quite know what to say that would fit the occasion/circumstances.
他不很了解在这种场合他该说些什么。 - Military training fits men for long marches/to make long marches.

(3) fit还可组成一些短语。
①fit in/into。 in一般用作副词,into为介词。可表示:
A.“放进去”
- Can we fit in any more chairs?
我们还能放进一些椅子吗? - The frame is too small for the picture to fit in .
相框太小,相片放不进去。 - The cork is too big to fit into the neck of the bottle.
瓶塞太大,塞不进瓶口。 - Can you manage to fit the table into the dining room?

⑤fit out意为“给……供应(置备服装等);把……装备起来”。
- I went to a large clothes shop where they could fit you out for anything.

①(be) suited for/to意为“适合,适宜于……”。
- I'm afraid he is not quite suited for the kind of work he is doing.

⑤suit oneself意为“随自己的便;随自己的心意”。
