区别辨析 generally, generally speaking, speaking generally, in general, as a whole, on the whole, all in all, by and large, altogether, in all, for the most part 与 in the main

(1) 这些词语意思非常接近,但不能完全置换,generally, generally speaking, speaking generally, in general, as a whole的意思基本相同,都是“一般(说来),总之”的意思。

  • Well, generally, I agree, but not on this point.
    哦,总的说来,我同意,但在这一点上不行。
  • He generally goes to the market every two days.
    他一般来说是每隔一天去市场一次。
  • Generally speaking/Speaking generally , I agree with you about the plan.

 (2) as a whole还有“作为整体”的意思。

 (3) on the whole, all in all及by and large意为“总的说来”。

 (4) all in all还作“总共”解。

 (7) ①for the most part意为“通常,多数情况下”。

  • He is for the most part a conscientious man.

②for the most part还作“大部分”解。

 (8) in the main意为“大体上,总的说来”。
