(1) generous可作“慷慨，大方”解，指资助、帮助别人时不吝啬；也可作“宽宏大量”解。

• He had the generous habit of sharing his money with less fortunate friends.
  对于境况比他差的朋友，他有慷慨解囊的习惯。
• She tends to be generous to her friends with money.

• He was very generous in his treatment of the captives.
  在对待俘虏上他很宽宏大量。
• He is known among his friends for being generous with advice.
  他在朋友中间以慷慨给人忠告而知名。

 (2) ①liberal也可作“慷慨，大方”解，与generous意思相近。

• He is liberal with/of his money.
  他在用钱上很大方。
• He is liberal in his help.
  他很慷慨助人。

②liberal用于物时，可作“大量的，丰足的”解。

• His father gives him a liberal amount of money each year.
  他父亲每年给他大量的钱。
• Liberal donations enabled us to speed up the construction of the new classroom building.
  大量的捐款使我们能够加快这座新教学楼的建设。

③liberal还有“宽宏大量，心胸大度”的意思。

• He was liberal to his opponent.
  他对他的反对者总是胸怀大度。

 (3) ①extravagant是“奢侈浪费，昂贵”的意思。

• It won't take long for you to exhaust all the money you inherited if you do not change your extravagant habits.
  如果你不改变你奢侈浪费的习惯，用不了多长时间你就会把你继承的钱全部花光了。
• This set of furniture is much too extravagant for us to buy.
