(1) ①hire和 rent有两个意思：A. 租用；B. 出租。在英式英语中，rent主要是指长期租用或出租，如：rent a house, rent a flat等；而hire则是指短期租用或出租，如：hire a boat, hire a hall for a meeting, hire a car, hire a bicycle等。

 (2) ①let在英式英语中用于表示出租房屋、土地等。

• She had already let the upstairs room to a student of my acquaintance for six months.
  她当时已把楼上房间租给了我认识的一个学生6个月了。
• We are hoping to let this field to a farmer.
  我们希望把这块地租给一个农民。

②let偶尔可用作不及物动词。

• How much does the house let for?
  这房子租金是多少？
• The apartment lets on a yearly basis.
  这个公寓按年出租。

＊在美式英语中，rent既可指长期也可指短期行为。美式英语的rent a car在英式英语中也已很常见。在美式英语中，hire可用于雇佣人。
