(1) ①incident可指引起国家间、敌对力量间纠纷甚至战争的事件、事端，如边境事件(frontier/border incidents)、叛乱、爆炸、战争等，以及当局因某种原因不愿说明的事件。

• There were several incidents on the frontier that finally led to an armed conflict.
  边境上发生了几起事件，最终导致了一场武装冲突。

②incident也可用来指小事，译为“事件，发生的事情”。

• On the very day, just before I left, an incident occurred.
  就在我离开前那一天，发生了一件事。
• The incident remains very clearly in my mind.
  这件事在我心中还记忆犹新。
• The year passed without an incident .
  平安无事地过了一年。

 (2) accident指“意外事件，不测，祸事，事故”。

• There have been many traffic accidents this year.
  今年发生了许多交通事故。
• He was killed in a motoring accident .
  他在一场机动车事故中身亡。

 (3) event常指“重大事件”。

• The founding of the People's Republic of China was an epoch-making event in the world's history.
  中华人民共和国的成立是世界历史上一个划时代的事件。
• He describes in his book the historic events of the 1940s.
  他在书中描述了20世纪40年代那些历史事件。
