(1) last用于表示昨天夜里，上周，上月，去年等，不用the。

• I saw Linda only last week.
  我上周还看到琳达。
• Were you at the meeting last Wednesday afternoon?
  你上周三下午在开会吗？

 (2) the last，the past可用来表示持续到目前的一段时间。作状语时，可用现在完成时或现在完成进行时。

• I've had flu for the last/past week.(=during the seven days up to today)
  我患感冒有一个星期了。
• The last year has been difficult. (=the twelve months up to now)
  过去这一年很困难。
• Our hens have not been laying well during the past month.
  我们的母鸡过去这一个月里产蛋不多。

 (3) 在有past的时间短语前有the时，past置名词前；无the时，置名词后。

• For some time past I have known that.
  我知道那件事有一段时间了。
• Yes, Doctor, I've not been feeling very well for the past few days/for few days past .
  是的，大夫，过去几天我一直感觉不好。

 (4) the last可用来指一系列中的最后一个，与“现在”无关。

• In the last week of the holiday a strange thing happened.
  假期的最后一周发生了一件奇怪的事。
• That was the last Christmas that I spent at home.
  那是我在家过的最后一个圣诞节。
