区别辨析 make fun of, poke fun at, make mock/sport of, make game of 与 make a mockery/travesty of

(1) make fun of, poke fun at意为“取笑;开……的玩笑”,与jeer at, jest at, laugh at意思相近。

  • Because he stammered slightly, the other boys made fun of him.
    因为他稍有点口吃,其他男孩子都取笑他。
  • He was constantly being poked fun at at school because of his West accent.
    由于他的西部口音,他在学校里经常被人取笑。
  • The crowd jeered at the politician when he promised full employment and low prices,as they knew that he could not possibly fulfill this.

 (2) make mock/sport of是“嘲笑、讥笑、取笑(某人或某事)”。
