neglect, ignore, disregard 与 overlook 这些词都有“忽视”、“忽略”的意思。

 (1) neglect指对应负责管理或注意的某事未能给予足够的重视，这种疏忽可能是有意的，也可能是无意的。

• Those who neglect their duties should be punished.
  玩忽职守者应受惩罚。
• The boy neglected the potted plants and as a result they all died.
  这个男孩疏忽了对这些盆栽花的照看，结果它们都死了。

 (2) ignore指对某人或某物故意不理会。

• They jeered at me, but I ignored them and walked on.
  他们嘲弄我，但我不理睬他们，继续走我的路。
• His driving license was revoked by the police for his ignoring the red light many times.
  他因多次闯红灯而被警察吊销了驾驶执照。

 (3) disregard指对警告、反对意见等不理会、不重视，强调主观、有意地忽视或不理睬。

• He utterly disregarded my warnings and met with an accident.
  他全然不理会我的警告，结果出了事故。
• They always disregarded my suggestion.
  他们总是无视我的建议。

 (4) overlook指因匆忙、粗心等原因而忽略了应注意的事物或细节。

• The editor overlooked a printer's error.
  这位编辑忽略了一个印刷错误。
• The mother overlooked her little boy's bad behavior.
  那位母亲忽视了她小儿子的不良行为。
