(1) one 和you 均可用来泛指“人们”。

人们从纽伯里走快车道。
(2) one常为说话讲究的人,特别是中上阶层及有知识的人使用,表示人们应尽的义务或按常理、行为准则等应如何行动的场合。
- One should scorn difficulties strategically but pay full attention to them tactically.
人们应在战略上藐视困难,在战术上重视困难。 - One should never trouble about one's personal interests.
一个人决不应计较个人利益。 - One must be modest and be always ready to learn from others.
人一定要谦虚,乐于向他人学习。 - One simply doesn't drink red wine with fish.
人们一般就是不会喝红酒吃鱼。 - To really appreciate Italian painting, one should see it in Italy.
要真正欣赏意大利绘画,应该到意大利去看。
(3) 在正式文体中one比you常用。
- If you want to make people angry, just tell them what you're really thinking.
如果你想让人生气,你就告诉他们你的真实想法。 - If one wishes to make oneself thoroughly unpopular, one has merely to tell people exactly what one has on one's mind.
如果你不想使自己讨人喜欢,只要把自己心中的真实想法告诉别人就可以了。
(4) one可指“任何人”(包括说话者),不用来指某个人或某一特定群体的人。
- One/You can't make an omelet without breaking eggs.
有失才有得。 - One shouldn't get upset about stupid things.
一个人不要为愚蠢的事情烦恼。
(5) 但下面两个例句就不宜用one。
- Somebody's knocking at the door.
有人敲门。 - In the Middle Ages people believed in witches.
中世纪时,人们相信女巫。
(6) one可用作主语或宾语,其所有格为one's,反身代词为oneself。
- He talks to one like a schoolmaster.
他跟人说话时就像校长一样。 - One should try to enjoy oneself at one's leisure.
人应当在闲暇时痛快地玩玩。
(7) 在美式英语中,one如用在句首,往往用he, him, his来反指one。
- One can't succeed at this unless he(英国人用one) tries hard.
一个人除非他努力,否则是不会成功的。 - One should be careful in talking to his(英国人用one's) colleagues.
一个人在与自己的同事讲话时应该谨慎。
