区别辨析 receive 与 accept

(1) ①receive表示“收到,接到”或“得到,受到”,但不一定接受(如礼物、邀请等)。

此外,还可用来表示“受(教育);收到(命令、指示、支持);受(处罚)”等以及“接见(客人)”等。

  • He received an invitation to be an exclusive sales agent, but he didn't accept in consideration of the bad reputation of the company.
    他接到邀请,要他担任独家销售代理,但考虑到该公司名誉不佳,他没有接受。
  • He received permission to go back home on holiday.
    他得到允许,回家度假。
  • That was the most valuable encouragement I had ever received from anyone.
    那是我所得到过的最珍贵的鼓励。
  • The old people can receive the best of care in the home for the elderly.
    这些老人们在老年之家能够得到最佳的呵护。
  • He received a severe punishment for not doing his homework.
    他因为没做家庭作业而受到严厉的惩罚。
  • The newcomers are to receive three weeks of intensive military training.
    新来的人要接受三周的集中军训。
  • The President is reported to have received the special envoy in charge of the Middle East affairs.
    据报道,总统接见了这位负责中东事务的特使。
  • Madam is not receiving callers today.
    夫人今天不见客。

②receive有时用作不及物动词,表示“见客”。

  • Mr. Jones receives twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday.
    琼斯先生每周两次接待客人,在星期二和星期五。

③receive有时表示“得到(某种反应);使……被接受”。

  • His speech was very well received /was received with enthusiasm by the teachers and students.
    他的演说得到师生热情的响应。
  • The Theory of Relativity put forth by Einstein was to be gradually received by the public.
    爱因斯坦的相对论将会逐渐地被公众接受。

 (2) ①accept表示“接受”,常用于礼物、邀请、忠告、建议、批评、计划等;“接受某人担任某角色”;还表示“接受,同意”,用于条件、意见、观点等。

  • Please accept this little gift in token of our esteem.
    请接受代表我们敬意的小礼品。
  • The management have already accepted the workers' terms in principle.
    资方已原则上接受了工人们的条件。
  • I'll talk him into accepting you as assistant to the manager.
    我将说服他接受你担任经理助手一职。
  • The new theory has become widely/universally accepted .
    这一新理论已被广泛/普遍接受。

②accept有时可跟that或what引导的从句。

  • accept that the aircraft has no choice but to crash into the sea.
    我同意飞机除坠入大海外别无选择的说法。
  • The police accepted what I said/my story as true.
    警察同意了我的说法/同意我讲的是真的。
