(1) ①reform意为“改进，改革，改造，改善”，通常指除掉或纠正坏的、错的，使变好。可用于罪人、品格，也可用于社会、政治经济等。如接反身代词，意为“改过自新”。

• We began to reform our economic system in an all-around/all-round way in 1978.
  1978年，我们开始全面改革经济体制。
• While reforming the objective world, we reform our subjective world.
  在改造客观世界的同时，我们改造我们的主观世界。

②reform作不及物动词，意思是“改过自新”。

• Tom has completely reformed now — he's stopped taking drugs and got a regular job.
  汤姆已完全改过自新——他已戒毒并有了一份固定工作。
• He promised to reform (himself) if given another chance.
  他发誓如果再给他一次机会，将改过自新。

 (2) ①convert意思是“(使)转变为……；(使)变化成……；兑换”，指从一种形式或用途转变为另一种。如可以说：convert rags into paper; convert securities(有价证券) into cash, convert RMB into U.S. Dollars等。

• He was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for one year, for having converted public money into his own use.
  他因挪用公款被判处一年徒刑，缓期一年执行。
• Coal can be converted into gas by burning.
  通过燃烧，煤可以被转换成气体。
• Can foreign currency be converted into RMB at this bank?
  在这家银行外汇可以兑换成人民币吗？

②convert也可用作不及物动词，意思是“(可)转变为，兑换为，转而使用”。

• Britain converted to decimal currency on Feb.15th, 1971.
  英国从1971年2月15日起改用十进制货币。
• We're thinking of converting from solid fuel to natural gas before the winter sets in.
  我们在考虑冬天来临之前把固体燃料改为用天然气。
• At what rate does the dollar convert into pounds?
  美元兑换为英镑汇率是多少？

 (3) transform是及物动词，意为“改变(形状、外观、品质或性质)”；使一种事物变为另一种事物，引申作“改革(特点、性质、职能)”解。

• We transformed the workshops in our factory last year.
  去年，我们改造了本厂的车间。
• We use this device to transform sunlight into electricity.
  我们用这种装置把阳光变成电。
• We could transform the desert into an oasis should there be water.
  如果有水的话，我们就能把这沙漠变成绿洲。

 (4) mould本意是“铸造，塑造”，remould则是“重塑，改造”，用于改造(思想、不良习惯)等场合。

• We should constantly remould ourselves so as to better serve the people.
  我们应不断改造自己，以便更好地为人民服务。
