result表示“(行动终了后的)结果”，effect意为“结果，效果”，侧重影响的程度或限度，与原因关系密切。

consequence通常指“后果，影响”，侧重事物的发展演进。

outcome意思是“结果，成果，结局”，着重事情的明确结局，upshot也表示“结果，结局”，有时侧重于事件发展到最后的结局及其不可避免性。

在一般使用中，result, effect(表结果时)可以换用。outcome, upshot也可与result换用。
