(1) satisfactory是“令人满意的，圆满的，满足需要或欲望的”，用于事或物。

• The progress of the project isn't quite satisfactory .
  这个工程的进展不太令人满意。
• This system of heating isn't satisfactory for such a large building.
  这种供暖系统不能满足这样一座大型建筑的需要。

 (2) ①satisfied表示“对……满意，满足”，用于人或人的表情。

• He began to smoke a cigarette with a satisfied air.
  他以满足的神情开始抽起烟来。
• The coach was now pretty well satisfied as to the performance of his team.
  现在教练对自己队的表现非常满意。
• I am not satisfied to do that sort of work.
  我不满足于做那种工作。

②be satisfied除了表示“感到满意”外，还可表示“相信”，常用的句型为：be satisfied that从句，或be satisfied of。

• The police were satisfied that he was innocent.
  警察相信他是无辜的。
• You don't seem satisfied of my truthfulness (that I am telling the truth)!
  你似乎不相信我在说实话！

 (3) ①content作形容词时表示“满足的，满意的”，侧重于对现状的“满足、满意”，仅用作表语，作定语要用contented。

• There should be no resting content with one's knowledge.
  一个人在对知识的追求上不应该满足。
• I am more than content with what he said.
  对于他所说的话我非常满意。
• He is perfectly content to live in a hut and paint pictures all day.
  住在一间茅舍里，终日绘画，他感到心满意足。
• Travelers must learn to be content .
  旅行者必须学会随遇而安。

②content还可用作动词，表示“使……满足”。

• The cozy fire and good company contented him.
  烤着暖烘烘的火，又有很好的伙伴相陪，使他感到很满足。
• Will it content you if I let you have the doll tomorrow?
  如果明天让你得到这布娃娃能让你满意吗？
• As there's no butter, we must content ourselves (be satisfied) with dry bread.
  既然没有黄油了，我们必须将就着吃干面包。

③content也可用作名词，表示“满意，心满意足”。

• Now she began to live in peace and content .
  现在她开始平静而满足地生活了。
• On Sundays the children are allowed to watch TV to their heart's content .
  星期天，孩子们被允许尽情地看电视。

 (4) contented意为“感到满足”，可作表语，也可作定语。

• Everybody feels contented with what he has.
  每个人对自己拥有的东西感到满足。
• He came in with a contented look.
  他带着满意的神情进来了。
