(1) sea指“大海，海洋”，可泛指覆盖地球表面大部分的咸水区域，也可指其中的任何部分，特别是靠近陆地的部分，如the South China sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Caribbean Sea, the Caspian Sea等。

 (2) ocean也指“大海，海洋”，通指包围地球大陆块的整个水域，也可指世界上的大洋之一，如the Pacific Ocean。sea与 ocean相比，前者的使用范围更广。

• He tried to fly over the Atlantic Ocean in a hot-air balloon.他试图
  乘热气球飞越大西洋。

  这艘小船挣扎在波涛汹涌的大海上。

 (3) sea可以构成许多合成词，如：sea-bathing(海水浴)， sea breeze, sea cucumber(海参)， sea food, sea horse, sea lion, sea-port, seashore, seabed, sea gull, seabird, sea coast, seaside, seasick(晕船)， seaman(水手)。

 (4) sea又可构成一些短语，如：a sea of(一大片、大量的)，at sea(在海上；茫然，摸不着头脑)，by sea (航海，乘船)，go to sea(当海员，去航海)，on the sea(在海边)，put (out) to sea(去航海)等。
