(1) servant意为“仆人，佣人”，多指家庭雇佣者。也可说a public servant(官吏、公仆，如警官、救火队员等)；civil servant(政府公务员)。servant还可用来比喻有用之物。

• Fire is a good servant but a bad master.
  火可造福人类，但也可成为祸首。

 (2) waiter则指“(餐厅、旅馆等的)服务员、侍者等(女性为waitress)”。

 (3) attendant作名词时，意为“侍者，侍从，服务员”，常指跟随某人并为其服务的人，也可指宾馆等处的“服务员”。

• The Prime Minister and his attendants are leaving for Paris.
  首相及其随行人员将要启程去巴黎。
• The room attendant speaks a little English.
  这位客房服务员会说一点儿英语。
