(1) ①show既可作及物动词，又可作不及物动词，意为“出示，展示，上演，放映”。作“展出”解时可与exhibit换用；作及物动词时，可用在show sb. sth.或show sth. to sb.短语中。
- You must show your ticket at the barrier.
你必须在入口处出示门票。 - He won the first prize for the flowers he showed/exhibited .

(2) ①display可作“展示，陈列；显露，表现”解，与show接近。
- Many department stores display their goods in the windows.
许多百货商店在橱窗里陈列他们的商品。 - The peacock displayed/showed its fine tail feathers.
这只孔雀展示了它美丽的尾羽。 - He displayed/showed great courage in saving the drowning child.
在抢救这位落水的儿童时他表现出了非凡的勇气。
②display还可作“炫耀”解。
- What she wanted to do was to dress up and display herself.

(3) ①exhibit意思是“陈列，展览”，可以是为了乐趣，也可以是为了售卖、竞赛，还可作“显示”解，例如：exhibit endurance/courage/fear/failure等。

(4) illustrate指用实物、图片、例子等“说明，解释”。

(5) indicate用姿势、目光等“表示，象征，说明”。
