spin, turn, revolve, rotate, pirouette 与 circle 这些词均可表示圆周运动。

 (1) spin可指绕着自身的轴或某个点旋转，用作不及物动词。

• The dancer is spinning on her toe.
  舞蹈演员以脚趾为轴旋转着。
• The bicycle is spinning along at a good speed.
  自行车在高速行驶。
• The wheel spins on its axle.
  这轮子绕它的轴旋转。

 (2) turn表示“旋转，转动”时，是普通用词。

• The wheel is turned by electricity at over 1，000 revolutions per minute.
  这个轮子由电带动以每分钟超过1000转的速度转动。
• You must turn the knob clockwise to open the safe.
  你必须按顺时针方向转动把手才能打开这个保险箱。
• Turn around and let me see your profile.
  转过身去让我看看你的侧影。

 (3) revolve常指围绕中轴或在一定轨道上作持续、规则的转动。

• The axle on which the wheel revolves is a little bent.
  这个轮子旋转的轴有点弯曲。
• Our earth revolves/turns round the sun.
  我们的地球绕着太阳旋转。
• A grand theatre with a revolving stage has been built downtown in the city.
  在市中心已建起一个有着旋转舞台的大剧场。

 (4) rotate表示围绕一个中心或在一定轨道上旋转、转动，在此意义上可与rotate, turn换用。

• A planet rotates around its “sun”.
  行星围绕着它的“太阳”运转。
• Can you make the top rotate ?
  你能使这个陀螺转动吗？
• The wheels of a car rotate as it moves along.
  轿车的轮子在轿车行驶时转动。

 (5) pirouette原指芭蕾舞演员用足尖作快速旋转，也用于物体的旋转。

• A leaf pirouetted down from the tree.
  一片树叶从树上轻飘飘地旋转落下。

 (6) circle意思是“环行，绕行；盘绕，盘旋”，可作及物动词，也可作不及物动词。

• The airplane circled (the airport) twice before landing.
  这架飞机在落地前(围着机场)旋转了两圈。
• An eagle is circling overhead in the sky, looking for its prey.
  一只老鹰在头顶的天空上盘旋着寻找猎物。
