there being和there to be是存在句的非限定形式。两者均可作介词的宾语。

 (1) 如介词是for，则用there to be形式。

• For there to be so few people in the streets was unusual.
  街上行人如此稀少，真不寻常。
• It is too late for there to be any taxis.
  天太晚，不会有出租车了。
• They planned for there to be another meeting recently to discuss the problem.
  他们打算最近再开会讨论这个问题。

 (2) 如介词不是for，则要用there being结构。

• You can't rely on there being another opportunity.
  你不能期望机遇再次光临。
• There's been a lot of talk about there being a serious traffic accident nearby in the road in which at least six people were killed.
  路边发生一起严重的交通事故，至少有六人死亡，人们对此事传得沸沸扬扬。
• What's the chance of there being an election this year?
  今年进行选举的可能性大吗？

 (3) 作动词宾语时，通常用there to be形式。

• Most people like there to be plenty of choice.
  大多数人都喜欢有更多的选择余地。
• I don't want there to be any more trouble.
  我可不想再有什么麻烦。

＊可以这样用的动词，较常见的有：like, want, expect, intend, mean, prefer, hate等。

 (4) there being形式还可作名词性从句，作主语或状语。

• There being a bus stop near your house is certainly a great advantage.
  你家附近就有车站，当然是个很大的便利。
• There having been no rain for about a month, the crops are withering.
  一个月来滴雨未下，禾苗都蔫了。
