(1) unlawful意为“不合法的”，是专门用语。
- He was arrested for the unlawful possession of firearms.

(2) illegal指“违法的”，指法律上明文规定不合法的。
- These are illegal acts and will lead to your arrest.
这些是不法行为，会让你被捕的。 - It's illegal to park your car here/to drive without a light after dark.
在此处停车/天黑后无灯行驶是违法的。
(3) illegitimate意为“非法的，不合规定的”，指不但违背法律，而且违背道理，用于指论辩的结论时，意为“不合逻辑的、推理错误的”。
- Illegitimate use of the donated money and materials to the relief fund will be imperatively forbidden.
必须禁止非法使用捐款和救济物资。 - It's illegitimate to use force in a situation like this.
在这种情况下使用武力是不合法的。 - I must point out that you've arrived at an illegitimate conclusion from a wrong inference.

(4) illicit指没有取得法律上的许可或有意规避因而是“非法的，被禁止的，不为法律或习俗所接受的”。

(5) lawless指“不法的，无法无天的，不受法律控制的”。
