(1) urge along/forward/on指“催促(人)前进；驱使(动物)向前”，其中along, forward, on均为副词。

• The man was urging the cows along with a stick.

• You must urge the children forward or we'll never get home.
  你必须催孩子们快些，否则我们永远也到不了家。
• Can you urge the horse on any faster?
  你能催马跑得更快些吗？

 (2) 还可表示“促使(某人)做更大努力；促使……加劲干”。

• The cheers of the spectators urged the team on/along/forward to victory.
  观众的喝彩声使队员们更加努力去夺取最后的胜利。
• There are so many sharp spurs which urge you on to invent more machinery and to do more business.
  有这么多的鞭策激励促使你继续发明更多的机器，做更多的生意。

 (3) urge on/upon可表示“向……强调；促使……认识”，其中的on/upon为介词。

• The teacher urged on/upon her students the importance of studying hard.
  这位老师促使她的学生认识到努力学习的重要性。
• He urged on/upon the audience the urgency of the situation.
  他促使观众认识到局势的紧迫性。
