(1) usual作定语时意思是“平常的，通常的”；作表语时，意思为“通常(的做法)，常有的(事)”，指人们所意料中的，大多数时间发生的。

• She answered the teacher's question in her usual calm voice.
  她用她惯常的平静的声音回答老师的提问。
• Shall we meet at the usual time?
  我们约在老时间见面可以吗？
• It's usual to tip the waiter in western countries.
  在西方国家给服务员小费是一种惯例。
• It is usual with her to be late.
  迟到是她常有的事。
• As usual , she arrived last.
  像往常一样，她最后一个到。

 (2) normal意为“正常的、平常的、常态的”，指符合预想、符合接受或认定的标准或情况。

• Her normal working hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  她的正常工作时间是从上午8点到下午4点半。
• It's perfectly normal for people to have different opinions about people and things.
  人们对人和事有不同的观点是完全正常的。
• Rainfall has been far above normal in July and August this year in the Yangzi River basin.
  今年7、8月份在长江流域的降雨远超过正常降雨量。
• Anybody with normal sense wouldn't have acted as you did.
  任何一个有正常头脑的人都不会像你那样行事。

 (3) habitual意为“通常的，习惯性的，经常有(来)的”。

• She gave me a habitual greeting.
  她像往常一样跟我打了个招呼。
• Walking to work is habitual with him.
  走着去上班对他来说已习以为常。
• He's a habitual thief.
  他是个惯偷。

 (4) customary指“习惯的，习俗的，通常的”。

• It is customary for me to get up late on Sunday mornings.
  星期天早上我习惯晚起。
• He sat in his customary place on the bus going to work.
  他坐在公共汽车上他常坐的一个座位上去上班。

 (5) regular主要有以下意思：

①经常的，正常的，有规律的，定期的。

• I was one of his regular customers in the three years that I was there.
  在那里的三年里，我是他的一个常客。
• We make a regular visit to our old teacher each week.
  我们每周都定期拜访我们那位上了年纪的老师。
• He lives a regular life after his retirement.
  退休后他过着有规律的生活。

②通常的，日常的。

• What is the regular dress for such occasions?
  这种场合通常穿什么服装？
• Our regular sleeping-place is in the next room, not here.
  我们通常睡觉的地方是隔壁的房间，不是这儿。

③正规的，正常的。

• Do you have regular work?
  你有正规的工作吗？
• Is he a regular doctor?
  他是正规的医生吗？
• Later he joined the regular army.
  后来他加入了正规部队。

④匀称的，端正的。

• He was walking up and down with regular steps.
  他迈着均匀的步子来回走动。
• His teeth are very regular .
  他的牙齿很匀称。

⑤真正的，地道的，简直是。

• He is a regular nuisance, always making trouble for us.
  他是个真正令人讨厌的人，总是给我们制造麻烦。
• His wife is a regular slave — she always has to bring him tea in bed.
  他的妻子简直是个奴隶——她总是得把茶给他送到床上。

 (6) routine可作形容词，表示“日常例行的，平淡无奇的”。

• A routine medical checkup is advisable at least once a year.
  至少每年进行一次例行的体检是可取的。
• This work is too routine for my taste.
  这份工作对我来说太平淡无奇了。

 (7) standard可作形容词，表示“标准的，高标准的，合乎指标的”，指通常种类的，不是稀有或特殊的；被普遍认可或接受的。

• These nails come in three standard sizes.
  这种钉子有三种标准尺寸。
• Standard time in China is eight hours ahead of British Standard time.
  中国的标准时间比英国的标准时间早8小时。
• What is the standard size of a double bed?
  双人床的标准尺寸是多少？
