vanish, disappear 与 fade 这些词都有“消失”的意思。

 (1) vanish语气强，指完全消失，往往是神秘而突然地消失，不留任何蛛丝马迹。

• The man ran into the shop and vanished from sight.
  那个男子跑到了商店里，然后就消失了。
• With a wave of his hand, the magician made the rabbit vanish .
  魔术师一挥手，兔子就不见了。

 (2) disappear是一般用词，指从视线或脑海中消失，这种消失既可指突然地，也可指逐渐地消失；既可指永远地，也可指暂时地消失。

• The child disappeared in the twinkling of an eye.
  这孩子一转眼就不见了。
• We watched the guests until they disappeared from sight.
  我们望着客人们直到看不见他们为止。

 (3) fade指颜色消退，或指声音、光线等变微弱、变黯淡。

• The wallpaper has faded from red to pale pink.
  墙纸从红色褪成了淡粉色。
• The closing music fades out when the hero rides off into the sunset.
  当男主角策马向夕阳驰去时，片尾音乐逐渐消失。
