(1) ①variety指“有变化，不单调；多种多样，品种繁多”。

• She didn't like the work, because it lacked variety . She was doing the same things all the time.

• What the students requested most often was variety within the lesson hour.
  学生最经常要求的是课堂上不单调。
• Variety is the spice of life.

②variety作“品种”解时，是可数名词。

• There are several varieties of red roses.
  红玫瑰有好几个品种。
• There were more than 13,000 identifiable varieties .
  可以识别的品种超过13000种。

③常用于a variety of，表示“各种各样的，多种多样的”。

• My wife purchased a variety of articles/items at the market.
  我的妻子在市场上买了各种各样的物品。
• They expressed a considerable variety of opinion on the problem.
  在这个问题上他们发表了各种各样的意见。

 (2) diversity...意为“多种多样，多样化，不同”，为不可数名词，但可加不定冠词。

• Mary has a great diversity of interests. She likes travel, photography and making radio sets.
  玛丽有许多不同的兴趣，她喜欢旅行、摄影和组装收音机。
• Diversity of opinions makes for an interesting discussion.
  意见的多样化使讨论生动有趣。
