(1) vary between...and...意为“由……到……情况不等；在……和……之间变化”。

• Her feelings varied between joy and fear as she watched him fight.
  当她看他打斗时，她一会儿开心，一会儿担心。
• The buildings in this city vary between very old and very new.
  这个城市的建筑物有的非常古老，有的非常新。

 (2) vary from...to...意为“由……到……情况不等”，与vary between...and...意思基本相同，可以换用。

• Opinions in the committee vary from approval to complete opposition.
  委员会中意见不一，有支持的，有完全反对的。
• Prices of the TV sets in this shop vary from 2,000 yuan to 8,000 yuan.
  这个商店的电视机价格由2000元到8000元不等。

 (3) vary in指“在……方面不同”。

• The two chairmen vary in their manner of dealing with a question.
  这两个主席在处理同一问题上的方式有所不同。
• The hotels vary in size and comfort.
  旅馆在大小和舒适度方面各有不同。

 (4) vary in...from...to...指“在……方面由……到……不等”。

• These apples vary in size from small to medium.
  这些苹果在大小方面由小的到中等的不等。
• The liquids vary in density from thin to thick.
  这些液体在浓度的稀薄方面不同。

 (5) range from...to.../between...and...意为“由……到……情况不等；从……到……变化不定”，多数情况下与vary between...and..., vary from...to...可换用。

• The children's ages range/vary from 7 to 12.
  孩子们的年龄在7岁到12岁之间。
• A good deed may range from endowing a university to helping an old lady cross the street.
  好人好事范围极宽，从向大学捐款，到帮助一位老人穿过马路。
• Temperatures here range from the low 30's to the upper 80's Fahrenheit.(也可用between...and)
  这儿的气温从低的华氏30度到高的华氏80度不等。

 (6) run from...to...也可表示“由……到……不等”。

• The colors of this flower run/range/vary from pink to blue.
  这种花从粉红到蓝色颜色多种多样。
• The music that the group can play runs/ranges from large-scale works to smaller pieces.
  这个乐队能演奏的音乐从大型的作品到较小的曲子不等。
