(1) 前两个短语均可表示“保证；为……作保”，但avouch for用得很少。

• I'll vouch for that man. Let him in.
  我为那个人做担保，让他进来吧。
• Can you avouch/vouch for his honesty?
  你能保证他的诚实吗？

 (2) guarantee可作“保证”解，为及物动词，后接名词、从句、不定式。

• Buying a train ticket doesn't guarantee you a seat.
  买到一张火车票并不能确保你有座位。
• Nobody can guarantee the punctual arrival of trains in foggy weather.
  在大雾天气里，没人能保证火车能准时到达。
• I guarantee to pay your debts/that the debts will be paid/the payment of your debts in time.
  我保证及时还清债务。

 (3) guarantee又作“为……提供保证；保修”解。

• The manufacturer guaranteed the washer for one year.
  制造商为此洗衣机保修一年。
• The watch is guaranteed for twelve months.
  这块表保修12个月。
