Sex and the City is an American television romantic sitcom which is adapted from the novel of the same name by Candace Bushnell. It is broadcast from 1998 until 2004 for six years. It follows the lives of four single women in search of the perfect relationship. Despite their different natures, they are inseparable.
《欲望都市》是根据坎迪斯·布什奈尔的同名小说改编而成的一部美国爱情情景剧。从1998年开播到2004年完结，历时6年。故事讲述了4名寻找完美恋爱关系的单身女性的故事。尽管个性截然不同，她们彼此却不可分离。

Carrie Bradshaw is the narrator. Each episode is structured around her train of thought while writing her weekly column, “Sex and the City”. Samantha Jones is an independent businesswoman with a career in public relations. She is not interested in long-term relationships and indulges in exciting “one-nighters”. Miranda Hobbes is a career-minded lawyer with cynical views on relationships and men. In the early seasons she is somewhat portrayed as distrustful of men and this is something she struggles with throughout most of the show. Charlotte York, from a prestigious, super-rich family, is the antithesis of Miranda; optimistic, romantic and a believer in true love and soulmates. But she has high old-fashioned moral standards which are almost impossible to live up to for any lover.

Over the course of its six seasons, Sex and the City was nominated for over fifty Emmy Awards, and won seven. The show has also been nominated for twenty-four Golden Globe Awards, and won eight.
