有一读者问： He had already built a small chemistry lab of his own中的of his own与his own是否一样？
of one's own 与one's own在意义上无甚区别，但用法不同。 即以上述所引的句子为例，则只能用of his own, 不可用his own，因为前者须置于名词之后。如用his own，全句须改写为：
(1)He had already built his own chemistry lab.
但这样一来，那个形容词small就无着落了。
另外，of one's own有“完全属于自己”的含义，语气一般较强，如：
(2)She has a mind of her own .
(3)We've got a house of our own now.
(4)Has he a car of his own ?
