有一读者问：有这样一句话：

a long gray ribbon of a road 是什么意思？如何理解这里的介词 of?它表示“属于”吗？好像讲不通。
a long gray ribbon of a road 是一种特殊结构，意思是“一条像一条很长的灰色带子一样的路”。再如：
(2)an angel of a child 一个像天使般的孩子
(3)a little rat of a fellow 一个像小老鼠的家伙
有时 of 前的名词并不意味着“像是”，而意味着“就是”或“是属某一类”，如：
(4)a rascal of a landlord 一个地主恶棍
(5)a stripling of a page 一个小伙子书童
但如在 of 前加上 sort，其后则不可再用 a，如：
(6)a pretty butterfly sort of girl 一个像蝴蝶般美丽的姑娘
这种特殊结构也可以是“the/ this/ that+ 名词 + of + a + 名词”，如：
(7)the specter of a man 这个像是幽灵的人
(8)this huge lunatic warren of a London 这座像是一个庞大的疯人院的伦敦城
(9)that fool of a Beatrice 那个傻瓜比阿特丽斯
这种结构的开头也可以用不定代词 some,如：
(10)some damned old lunkhead of a general 一个该死的老而傻的将军
从语法关系来讲，a long gray ribbon of表部分关系，因为它相当于a...sort of，但如将这里的of看作表同位关系，似乎未尝不可。
