有一读者问：小说《简·爱》 （Jane Eyre ）第17章有这样两句对话：
(1)“Mr. Rochester, I thought you were not fond of children?”“Nor am I.”
第18章末尾又有这样一段对话：
(2)“If you like, miss，”said Sam,“I'll wait in the hall for you; and if she frightens you, just call and I'll come in.”
“No, Sam, return to the kitchen:I am not in the least afraid.”Nor was I; but I was a good deal interested and excited.
这两段对话中的 nor 作何解？似乎并不相当于 and also not 吧？
nor（以及 neither）的这种以倒装形式对前一否定结构表示赞同的情况比较少见。一般用 nor（或 neither）来表示赞同一否定结构时，都用 SV （主+谓）次序，如：
(3)—You would insist that you didn't like her playing.
—Nor I did.
(4)—You were saying the other day that you hadn't seen Clemmie for five years.
—Nor I have.
但有时亦可用“nor+谓语+主语”结构表示对前文中否定结构的赞同，上述对话（1）与（2）即是较为典型的例子，再如：
(5)As to Bertie, one would have imagined from the sound of his voice and the gleam of his eye that he had not a sorrow nor a care in the world. Nor had he.
从语法讲，nor 在此是一连词（也有人将它唤作连接副词）。从其含义来讲，“nor+谓语+主语”与“nor+主语+谓语”这两种次序似乎并无不同。
