有一读者问： 有这样一个句子：
(1)The only person I have ever known to have a skeleton in the cupboard is George.
如何分析I have ever known to have a skeleton in the cupboard呢？
这是一个定语从句，用以修饰其前的the only person。如做内部分析，则其基本结构是“主语 （I)+ 谓语 (have known)+ 宾语（被省去的关系代词that或whom）”。to have a skeleton in the cupboard是一不定式短语，用作宾语补足语。换言之，它和宾语that或whom构成复合宾语。你的困难可能是对“know + 宾语 + 不定式”这一结构不很熟悉，现让我们再举几例如下：
(2)I know him to be ill.
(3)I never knew him tell a lie.
(4)I've never known it （to）snow in July before.
(5)I've known them （to）strike their children in front of visitors.
(6)Tell me, did you ever know him to wear a black over his bad eye?
(7)Have you ever known her lose her temper?
关于不定式用不用to的问题，一般言之，be之前不省去to；know意指“经历”时，不定式不用to （但也有用to的情况），而意指“知道，认为”时，不定式没有to。
顺便提一下。像上述例（2）的句子，比较文气，通常应说：
