oftener和oftenest比more often和most often普通。

说一个人的子女，无论几个都用单数形式offspring。

“政府工作人员”可以译作government official。

officer单独用通常指（海、陆或空军的）军官。

office-boy是“练习生”，不是殖民地或半殖民地的“仆欧”或“西崽”（boy）。

offer不论用作名词或动词，后面都接不定式，如his offer to help her和He offered to help her。

说“违犯（法律、风俗、礼貌等）”现在不可用及物动词offend，必须说offend against。

an alley off the street等表达方式里的off作leading out of解，不可改作of。

可以说He is a friend of mine，不可说He is a friend of me。
