In contrast with和in contrast to都作“和…作对比”或“和…大不相同”解，后者较普通。

on the contrary是状语短语，通常作“极不那样”（far from that）解，用在从句或句子的开首，有时也用在从句或句子的主语的后面。

in contradistinction from和in contradistinction to都作“跟…对比”解。

contradict比deny语气重。deny the rumour是“否认这谣言”，只是“说并没有这回事”
