依托 English Vocabulary Organiser 一书的100个 units ，今天继续为大家推送《精通英语词汇100主题》这个栏目，以下便是第10期关于 Clothes 的主题词汇笔记。这一期（上）主要讲透穿衣流程，穿插有一些值得积累的地道习语表达。
【穿衣流程】
小站之前推荐过一本『图解日常生活英语』（English for Everyday Activities），涉及详细的穿衣（get dressed）流程，例如：
- zip up the fly （拉上裤子拉链）
拓展：zip up a jacket/bag/suitcase（拉上夹克/包/行李箱的拉链）
zip through one’s work （快速完成工作） - button the cuff （扣好袖口）
联想：cuff 除了指“袖口”外，还有“护腕、手铐”之意
拓展：Off the cuff （即兴的） vs On the cuff （赊账） - tuck the shirt into pants （衬衫塞进裤腰）
拓展： Have ants in one’s pants （坐立不安） vs Be caught with one's pants down （逮个正着，同 be caught red-handed） - wear a short-sleeved/sleeveless dress （穿短袖/无袖连衣裙）
拓展：Have a card up one’s sleeve （胸有成竹） vs Roll up one’s sleeve （卷起袖子，准备行动） - go barefoot （打赤脚）
联想：in one’s birthday suit （赤身的） - wear sandals （穿凉鞋）
联想： Flip-flops （人字拖）vs Slippers （家居拖鞋）vs The glass slipper （水晶鞋） - Put on one’s trousers （穿裤子）拓展：Wear the trousers （当权者，一家之主） vs All mouth no trousers （只说不做，同“全身上下只剩一张嘴了”）
- Put on one’s socks （穿袜子）
联想：Pull up one’s socks （振作起来，鼓起精神） vs Put a sock in it （别出声、住嘴，同 zip up one's mouth） - tie the laces （系鞋带）
拓展：Bow tie （蝶形领结） vs Bowknot （蝴蝶结）
lace-up sneakers （系带运动鞋） - wrap a scarf around one’s neck （戴围巾）
拓展：unwind/unwrap the scarf from one's neck （解开脖子上的围巾）
注意：unwind 的过去式是 unwound
【容易混淆 & 值得积累的表达】
- Button up（系好扣子）vs Buckle up （系好安全带，同 fasten your seatbelt）
拓展：Tighten one’s belt （勒紧腰带，省吃俭用） vs Below the belt （不公正的、不正当的） - Gloves （分指手套）vs Mittens （连指手套）
拓展：Hand in glove with sb. （形影不离）vs Fit like a glove （非常合适） - Nylons/stockings（长袜）vs Pantyhose （连裤袜，英式英语使用 tights 表示）
拓展：Blue stocking （女才子）vs In one's stocking feet （穿了袜子没穿鞋） - Waistcoat （无袖正装马甲，英式英语）vs Bullet-proof vest（防弹背心，美式英语）
拓展：waistcoat 是明确的英式西装马甲，而 vest 在美国是西装马甲或功能背心 - Cap （无边便帽）vs Hat（有完整圆形帽檐）
联想：Put one’s thinking cap on （开动脑筋） vs Pull a rabbit out of the hat （出乎意料地解决问题）
拓展：在英语中“black hat”比喻坏人、反面人物，而中文中京剧脸谱中的白脸（曹操、严嵩）多为反面角色。唱白脸可用 play the villain 表示，而一个唱白脸，一个唱红脸表示软硬兼施来解决问题（one coaxes, the other coerces），在英语里还有个类似表达：good cop, bad cop 。
